How Did This Accident Occur?
Whenever two vehicles collide at an intersection like this, the first question authorities must answer is which one had the right of way. They likely will find that one of these vehicles ran a red light, but they also must figure out why.
Did one of these driver’s misjudge the length of the yellow light? Was one of the driver’s distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did one of these vehicles experience unexpected acceleration, or have a problem with its brakes? I don’t claim to know the answer to these questions, but I expect a full investigation of this crash to sort out what happened at this intersection.
Authorities will work to reconstruct the crash by poring over physical evidence, witness statements, data from both vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone data may show what the drivers were doing at the time of the crash, but if investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this accident an independent expert may be needed.
In my experience, most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training to conduct a forensic examination of both vehicles, so families usually have to turn to a qualified expert to figure out if there was a mechanical cause for this crash.
This kind of investigation is necessary to provide answers to any questions plaguing the Ford driver’s family after this accident.
