The other driver, identified as a 17-year-old, currently faces charges for intoxication manslaughter. It’s unclear if authorities think drugs or alcohol led to the crash. The reason that’s an important distinction to make is because, depending on the circumstances, providing alcohol to a minor can make that provider responsible for contributing to a resulting accident.

That’s concerning regardless of who the provider was, but across hundreds of cases I’ve handled against negligent alcohol providers, it would surprise people how many licensed businesses knowingly sell alcohol to minors. Catching an establishment like that is enough reason on its own to make sure investigators retrace the allegedly intoxicated driver’s steps leading up to the crash. Getting answers and potentially seeing wrongdoers held accountable for a man’s death only make those steps more crucial going forward.
