Without knowing more than these current details, the last thing anyone should do is jump to conclusions. Frequently on this blog I talk about the importance of investigating all sorts of complex factors that can cause single vehicle accidents. Mechanical issues, manufacturers’ defects, road hazards or design flaws, hit-and-runs, tire failure—common or not, a proper accident reconstruction should be able to confirm or rule out these possibilities.
Instead, people tend to just assume the driver did something wrong. Is that possible? Of course. Things like distracted driving and drunk driving, for example, are common. But even then, there can be extenuating circumstances initial news reports simply aren’t going to address. At the end of the day, someone lost their life here. The victim’s loved ones deserve to know they’re getting the whole story.
