Accident Report
May 20, 2026, Lawrence Chavez and a teenager were injured following a car accident at around 8:42 p.m. along Amarillo Boulevard.
Preliminary statements from authorities say that the accident happened at the intersection of Amarillo Boulevard and North Florida Street.
It appears that 60-year-old Lawrence Chavez was in a Buick Enclave going eastbound on Amarillo Blvd. An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old were in a Dodge Challenger going northbound. Authorities say the Dodge failed to yield, and the vehicles collided.
Due to the accident, both Lawrence Chavez and the Dodge driver reportedly had serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
If it’s true that a teen driver failed to yield here, that wouldn’t really be all that shocking. Teen drivers are certainly prone to mistakes. However, I say all the time on this blog that it’s important to get the full story, and a situation like this isn’t the exception. For all anyone knows, this happened due to something highly unusual or avoidable. Did authorities inspect the vehicles for potential defects? Was alcohol a factor? Was there a missing or obstructed stop sign at the intersection?
These are questions I generally expect a proper accident reconstruction to answer. If authorities have done that here, that would be good to know. It’s just not the sort of thing I’d ever take for granted without seeing the evidence personally, and it’s usually best for victims and families to take a similar approach.
Do any locals know of something about this intersection or stretch of road that’s unique? Tell me your thoughts in the comments.
