How Did This Accident Occur?
It is not clear at this time how this man got pinned against a wall by a garbage truck. I hope this accident is investigated thoroughly by the agencies involved.
Authorities who look into workplace accident tend to focus on their own priorities; police look for potential criminal charges, and health and safety inspectors look for possible rule violations. That leaves the family to navigate complex workplace fatality laws, with no clear path to getting the resolution they deserve.
I always urge families to trust their instincts after an accident like this. If they feel officials have fairly addressed their questions and concerns, they usually can rest assured the investigation was handled well. But if they feel like their questions are being ignored or brushed aside, they might look for an independent investigator to get involved.
