How Did This Accident Occur?
Initial reports don’t tell us why this SUV crashed on I-30. Was it traveling too fast for weather conditions? Did it experience a tire blowout? Did another vehicle force the Suburban out of its lane? Did the GMC have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? I am not claiming to know the answer to these questions, but I’ve been part of enough accident investigations in my career to know that they’re the kind of questions authorities should focus on in their investigation.
Evidence from the scene, witness statements, data from the SUV and any available video of the crash should help figure out why this accident happened, but an independent expert may be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to the crash. In my experience, most law enforcement agencies don’t have the technical expertise for a forensic examination in a laboratory setting.
