Accident Report

Madison County, TX — April 20, 2026, Rosine Kabano and Kenny Kabano were killed in a car accident on Interstate 45 near Madisonville.

Authorities said a 2026 Mitsubishi Eclipse was trying to change lanes south of State Highway 21 when it was hit by a 2023 Chevrolet pickup with a utility trailer.

A passenger in the Mitsubishi, 18-year-old Kenrik “Kenny” Kabano, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities, while his mother, 44-year-old driver Rosine Kabano, died after being flown to a Bryan hospital.

The two people in the pickup were not injured, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Madison County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Did the Mitsubishi change lanes without warning? Was the Chevrolet speeding at the time of the collision? Did a mechanical issue contribute to this crash? These are questions that investigators must consider as they attempt to reconstruct this crash.

Authorities can gather evidence from the scene, data from the vehicles and any available video footage of the crash to piece together what happened on I-45, but an independent expert likely will be needed if they suspect a mechanical issue. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for a forensic examination like that, in my experience, but this investigation must turn up as much information as possible for those grieving this accident.
