With single-vehicle wrecks, it’s important to consider that the public details rarely amount to the whole story. There is usually more beyond the surface that requires more thorough investigations. Sometimes, even authorities aren’t willing to put in that sort of effort. Not all departments prioritize single-vehicle wrecks, so they might overlook important details if they don’t dedicate the sort of time or tools that more thorough independent accident reconstructionists would. That’s one of the reasons I never take preliminary investigations at face value. There could be anything from vehicle defects to road hazards to alcohol to medical emergencies involved in the crash. Until all the evidence is clear, it helps to consider whether or not authorities are taking the steps to consider these possibilities.
