Jefferson County, MT — January 7, 2024, Katie Montgomery was killed and four were injured after an 18-wheeler accident at around noon along I-90.
Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the Montana Highway Patrol released preliminary details about the accident. They say that the crash happened between Three Forks and Caldwell on westbound lanes of the interstate.
According to current statements, 26-year-old Katie Montgomery of Salt Lake City, UT, was in one of several vehicles going westbound on I-90. For reasons not specified right now, a semi-truck traveling on the interstate lost control and jackknifed. Officials say this caused a chain reaction crash involving at least a dozen vehicles.
Due to those collisions, Montgomery sustained injuries which proved fatal. There were four other people taken to area hospitals with unspecified injuries. At this time, additional details about the crash are unavailable.
