How Did This Accident Occur?

Head-on collisions like this are usually caused because one vehicle left its lane, but which one in this instance? I expect authorities to figure that our pretty quickly based on evidence from the scene and witness statements, but it will take a full investigation to figure out why this crash happened.

Data from the vehicles, cell phone records and any available video should help piece together what happened, but an independent expert may be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical defect contributed to this crash. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for the kind of forensic examination needed to identify a problem with one of these vehicles, in my experience. The exams must be done quickly before the vehicles are scrapped or repaired.

This investigation must be able to answer any lingering questions the injured driver and her family have about this crash.
