How Did This Accident Occur?
I think a lot of people will see authorities accuse a teen driver of failing to yield, and they’ll think that about wraps things up. It’s certainly not unusual for a teen to make a mistake behind the wheel. But I’ve always emphasized over the years just how important evidence is in these situations. If a driver does make a mistake and cause an accident, evidence helps ensure insurance companies have as little room to shift the blame as possible. If something unusual happened the driver couldn’t actually avoid (for example, a vehicle defect), evidence can bring that issue to light so that no one is falsely blamed and so the victims and families know what path to take going forward. It remains to be seen if this crash is getting the right kind of thorough investigation to see that happens here.
