How Did This Accident Occur?
When people read about this accident, they probably assume the Kenworth driver was at fault for this crash. Maybe he was distracted, or just not paying attention. But what if he had a medical emergency? Or his truck had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? That would change the way people see this crash.
The best way to figure out what happened on I-80 near Columbia is to wait until the investigation is complete, so conclusions can be based on facts rather than assumptions.
Investigators, either police or an independent third party, will work to reconstruct the crash by poring over physical evidence, witness statements, data from the trucks and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the Kenworth driver was doing at the time.
If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, a qualified expert will be needed to complete a forensic examination of the truck. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, but the Kenworth driver’s family deserves a clear picture of what caused this crash.
