El Paso, TX — January 1, 2024, Karla Lugo was killed while Carlos Arellanes was injured in a truck accident on Gateway Boulevard East.
According to authorities, 61-year-old Carlos Arellanes was traveling in a box truck in the center lane of Gateway Blvd. East in the vicinity southeast of Lee Trevino Drive when the accident took place.
A Toyota Rav4 occupied by 31-year-old Karla Lugo was reportedly traveling in the same lane behind the box truck. Officials indicate that the Toyota may have been traveling at high speeds leading up to the accident. Reports state that the Toyota failed to control its speed; it swerved in an apparent attempt to avoid a collision with the box truck but was ultimately unable to do so. The collision between the two vehicles caused the Toyota to lose control, coming to a stop in the left-hand lane of the road.
Lugo incurred reportedly fatal injuries due to the crash and was declared deceased at the scene. Arellanes incurred apparently minor injuries and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
