How Did This Accident Occur?

The first thing that authorities must do after this crash is figure out which vehicle left its lane. That shouldn’t be too hard to do once investigators review physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Those sources should offer clues as to why this accident happened.

Maybe one driver was distracted. Engine data will show steering inputs, while cell phone records could show if a driver was texting or interacting with an app.

Maybe one vehicle swerved to avoid an object in the road. Video or witness statements could indicate as much.

Maybe a mechanical issue contributed to this crash. Proving this likely would take an in-depth inspection by a qualified expert.

A thorough investigation should yield clear answers about what happened on U.S. 23.
