Accident Report

May 10, 2026, Kadarrius Barnes lost his life due to a rollover car accident shortly before 3:45 a.m. along Lexington Road.

According to authorities, a man—identified as Kadarrius Barnes—was traveling in a Tesla on Lexington Road in the vicinity of the Louetta Road intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Tesla was allegedly traveling at unsafe speeds and failed to safely negotiate a curve in the roadway. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently overturned, rolling approximately three times and coming to a stop after crashing into a tree.

Kadarrius Barnes reportedly sustained critical injuries over the course of the accident and was entrapped in the wreckage. Once freed from the aftermath by emergency personnel, Barnes was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome his injuries, having later been declared deceased.

Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When it comes to single-vehicle accidents, most people are content to assume they are caused by the person behind the wheel. After being in this line of business for over three decades, though, I’m not so quick to jump to conclusions. I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigation.

To be clear, I’m not implying that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I simply want to point out that, hypothetically, something could have gone wrong with the Tesla—like brake failure or a throttle issue—to cause its unsafe speeds. On top of that, there is the fact that the vehicle overturned.

Not many realize this, but the rollover test that car manufacturers are required to pass actually does a terrible job of simulating real-world scenarios. I would be interested to know whether or not a design flaw with the Tesla contributed to the fact that it rolled. After all, it’s possible that the crash could have been survivable had the vehicle managed to remain safely upright.

Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get an in-depth vehicle inspection done on the Tesla by trained professionals in a laboratory setting. That way, any mechanical malfunctions, product defects, or design flaws that played a role in the wreck won’t be allowed to fly under the radar. In the end, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding as to not only how it happened, but why. That kind of clarity simply can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
