Harvey County, KS — July 28, 2026, Justin Farley was killed and another person was injured in a truck accident at about 2:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway 50 west of Newton.

Authorities said a dump truck was heading south on Ridge Road when it allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with an eastbound 1998 Cadillac DeVille, causing the car to overturn into a ditch while the truck rolled onto its side.

Cadillac driver Justin J. Farley, 43, of Pretty Prairie was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.

The truck driver, a 32-year-old Augusta man, was hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Harvey County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Initial reports indicate this crash happened because the dump truck ran a stop sign, but that doesn’t necessarily mean this accident is his fault. What if the driver had a medical emergency? Or what if the dump truck had a problem with its throttle or brakes? That would change the way people look at this accident, demonstrating why a full investigation is necessary.

Authorities will work to reconstruct this crash by poring over vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and any available video footage, while cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time.

Investigators also should look into the trucking company to determine if its hiring policies or maintenance practices may have contributed to this accident.

The investigation should provide the Cadillac driver’s family with a clear picture of what happened on U.S. Highway 50.
