San Antonio, TX — May 9, 2024 Julian Molina-Reyes was killed as the result of a work accident which occurred at 8:30 a.m. along Kirkner Road.
Investigators said that the accident took place just off US 87 outside China Grove in east Bexar County.
The OSHA statement on the accident says that 23-year-old Julian Molina-Reyes was near an excavator at the time. The operator moved the excavator boom, and it struck Julian Molina-Reyes. This resulted in fatal injuries.
In the OSHA report, officials listed seven alleged violation citations, multiple of which were labeled “serious.” They also included a recommended penalty. Current details about the accident are unclear.

As serious as it is to see OSHA alleged multiple serious violations following a fatal work accident, their efforts aren’t likely the beginning and end of the story. OSHA is an important part of worker safety, without a doubt. But in terms of families seeing accountability for an accident, they’re often just one piece of the puzzle. Texas has uniquely challenging work fatality law, and it can require families to have a mountain of evidence and significant legal tools backing them up to get to a proper resolution. So if steps were taken here beyond just relying on OSHA, that would be good to hear. However, there are a lot of families who lose a loved one on the job that find out later that their situation never really got the attention it needed.
