San Antonio, TX — May 31, 2024, Juan Rivera sustained injuries due to a single-vehicle car accident at around 12:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 90.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash took place at the U.S. 90 and Loop 410 interchange.

It appears that 50-year-old Juan Luis Rivera was in a BMW Z Series going along the transfer ramp from westbound U.S. 90 to northbound Loop 410. While doing so, the vehicle somehow ran off-road where it then overturned. As a result, Rivera sustained injuries called serious. No one else was reportedly involved in the crash.

One thing to consider with single-vehicle wrecks is not just what the likely factors are but whether or not authorities investigated beyond those possibilities. Over the years, I’ve had cases involving all kinds of unique factors. Medical conditions, mechanical defects, people over-served by a bar, tire failure, roadway design flaws, etc. But those factors rarely came to light thanks to the authorities. They usually only came up following independent accident reconstructions that caught what the authorities let slip through the cracks. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but I’d hesitate to rule that out without knowing if authorities were more thorough here than they usually are after a single-vehicle wreck.
