Polk County, TX — June 23, 2024, a Goodrich man and Juan Reyes were injured following a single-vehicle accident at around 2:30 p.m. on F.M. 1988.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of F.M. 1988 and Rayon Road.
According to officials, a 47-year-old Goodrich man and 21-year-old Juan Reyes were in a Chevy Tahoe going eastbound along F.M. 1988. The vehicle apparently lost control, causing it to veer into the ditch. The Tahoe continued off-road, going through a fence and overturned before coming to rest on private property. Due to the accident, both Juan Reyes and the Goodrich man had serious injuries.
Right now, exact circumstances remain unconfirmed.

With single-vehicle accidents like this, it’s important that folks keep in mind there can be far more complex factors to consider than just the typical speeding, distraction, or fatigue. Was there a mechanical defect? Were there issues with the roadway? Did a tire blowout? Is there an alcohol provider responsible for illegally over-serving the driver? Does this stretch of road cause a lot of other accidents? Even if something seems unlikely, it’s best that the evidence has the chance to speak for itself. It remains to be seen if authorities ever took those steps.
