Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When people hear about crashes like this one, it’s easy for them to assume they are a result of simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving large trucks often require thorough investigations to understand all contributing factors.

In this incident, the circumstances leading to the hit-and-run collision are still under investigation. It is essential to figure out why the Mack truck veered out of its lane and ultimately collided with the oncoming Kia. Factors such as mechanical failure, driver fatigue, or even inadequate maintenance of the vehicle should be considered. Each of these elements can play a significant role in accidents involving large trucks.

One critical aspect of this accident is the decision of the truck driver to flee the scene. Failing to stop and render aid not only compounds the severity of the situation but also raises serious questions. Hit-and-run drivers often believe they can escape responsibility, but with modern investigative techniques, it is becoming increasingly difficult to evade justice. Authorities are likely to conduct a thorough investigation to track down the fleeing driver, examining evidence such as traffic camera footage, eyewitness accounts, and vehicle debris left at the scene.

The investigation should also focus on the condition and maintenance of the Mack truck. Regular inspections and proper upkeep are vital for ensuring that commercial trucks operate safely on the road. Any lapses in this area could indicate negligence on the part of the trucking company or the driver.

Moreover, the trucking company responsible for the Mack truck may share in the responsibility for the accident. If the company failed to enforce safety protocols, ensure proper training for their drivers, or maintain their vehicles in good working order, they could be held accountable for their role in the crash. It’s crucial to examine whether all safety measures were followed by the company and the driver.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
