Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

This isn’t exactly the most common set of circumstances, so people may be wondering how the investigations would be handled for a crash like this. The truth is that it varies from department to department. Some police have all the tools and time they need to dig below the surface and make sure that even less common factors get attention.

Other times, though, officers basically have to go with a cursory examination of the crash scene and their gut. This can leave families without proper answers about what went wrong, and it’s why many people end up seeking out independent accident reconstructionists. One way or another, getting a proper resolution requires knowing the facts. When authorities can’t guarantee those facts, that’s when it’s often best for a second set of eyes to look things over so nothing important slips through the cracks.
