The SUV driver, 49-year-old Joseph Ellis, and his passenger, 49-year-old Gina Ganaway, died in the crash west of Wolfforth, according to authorities. Gina Ganaway’s 6-year-old son died at a local hospital from injuries suffered in the crash.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear at this point what caused these vehicles to collide. Did one veer out of its lane to avoid an object in the road? Was one driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did one of these vehicles have a problem with its steering mechanism? The best way to answer these questions is to wait until the investigation is complete.

The investigation should yield facts that will allow authorities to piece together what happened on F.M. 1585, as authorities review physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage. Cell phone records could offer a glimpse at what each driver was doing at the time of the crash.

If investigators suspect a mechanical issue contributed to the crash, the vehicles should be examined in a laboratory setting by a qualified expert, since most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspection, in my experience.

The families of those who died in this crash deserve to know as much as possible about what caused this accident.
