Right now, authorities mentioned looking into alcohol as a possible factor in the crash. This could be standard procedure, since drunk driving is unfortunately common in Texas. But if there’s evidence alcohol was a factor, it could make things a lot more challenging than people may realize.
This is due primarily to the fact investigators would need to find out where that alcohol came from and whether or not a negligent alcohol provider contributed to the accident. Frankly, though, I’ve worked with too many families who patiently waited for answers from the authorities only for their investigations to fall short and overlook a negligent alcohol provider. Unless victims and families happen to take steps that can catch the things authorities let slip through the cracks, those negligent establishments are simply let off the hook to continue putting the community at risk.
For that reason, if there’s going to be accountability after any alcohol-related accident, investigations have to be thorough enough to consider evidence that isn’t readily apparent at the crash scene. If that is what happened here, these current details are likely just the tip of the iceberg.
