Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With something like a tire blowout, people tend to just move on and assume there’s nothing to discuss. However, it’s important to still take these accidents seriously even though they’re often unavoidable. For one, a reconstruction of the tire could reveal a defect. That may be uncommon, but it’s happened before, and it could very well happen again.

On top of that, there could also be extenuating factors to consider, such as safety feature defects. Did the victim’s airbag go off? Did their seatbelt work properly? Did they experience seatback failure, something that too often goes overlooked? Likely or not, someone was seriously hurt. It’s worth at least considering the possibility there was something involved in the crash that authorities weren’t able to catch on their own.
