How Did This Accident Occur?
The OSHA statements suggest there may have been a fall in this accident. That could involve anything from a lack of safety equipment to a negligent co-worker to slip or tripping hazards to defective equipment. As much as folks assume authorities would be able to distinguish between all that, that’s not always how things go.
Simply put, OSHA has their own priorities to worry about. That doesn’t always align with getting a worker’s loved ones the complete story of what happened in the accident. This is why a lot of the families who call me about work accidents do so because they’re tired of waiting around for answers. It’s especially important they get them, too, considering Texas has the most complex work fatality laws in the whole country. Navigating that maze requires as much evidence as possible telling the story.
So if OSHA hasn’t been more open behind the scenes to keep the worker’s family in the loop, there may still be a lot of unanswered questions here. It’s no surprise in those situations when families decide they need another set of eyes looking things over so nothing important slips through the cracks.
