Washington County, TX — June 9, 2024, Jose Lopez was injured and another person was killed in a car accident shortly before 3:15 p.m. along U.S. Highway 290.
According to authorities, 26-year-old Jose Lopez was traveling in an eastbound Chevrolet Corvette on U.S. 290 at the William B Travis Lane intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Kia Forte occupied by a 70-year-old woman on William B Travis entered the intersection at an apparently unsafe time failing to yield the right of way to highway traffic at a stop sign. This resulted in a collision between the front-end of the Corvette and the front-left side of the Kia.
The woman from the Kia incurred fatal injuries due to the wreck. Lopez sustained reportedly severe injuries and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
