Something that’s challenging with accidents like this is people are too quick to blame the victims without considering all of the facts. Rear-end collisions are often the result of driver error, certainly, but there could be extenuating circumstances authorities overlooked. What were road conditions like? Were the truck’s brake lights functioning? Did the victim’s vehicle experience a mechanical issue such as brake failure? Is there something wrong with this intersection that makes accidents more likely?

Whether or not a given factor is common, investigations need to make sure there is clear evidence to tell the whole story. It would surprise people how often I’ve had cases where independent investigations revealed all kinds of details authorities missed, even details one might think are impossible to overlook. Maybe authorities here were thorough than that, but I’d say a young man losing his life is a situation worth as much scrutiny as possible to ensure his family gets the answers they deserve.
