How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people probably think driver error is the cause for single-vehicle accidents like this one, but I’ve been part of enough accident investigations to know that the only way to know how an accident unfolded is to wait until a full investigation is completed.
First impressions are simply assumptions, and those should not be the basis of any crash investigation. Investigations must be built on facts drawn from evidence at the scene, data from the vehicle’s engine control module and any available video of the crash. A forensic examination of the Toyota can help determine if a mechanical issue contributed to the crash, as well as whether a design or manufacturing defect meant the drive was not adequately protected in the rollover.
