Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With any work accident, it’s important to note that challenges don’t end once authorities investigate the accident. Texas has the most complex work fatality laws of any other state in the country.
Simply put, there isn’t always a guaranteed path for getting a victim’s loved ones benefits after a deadly accident. Some families think there will be only to find themselves at odds with the victim’s employer, whose sole priority is avoiding responsibility.
That’s why meeting the needs of a worker’s family often takes thorough effort from independent investigators whose priority is simply to get clear answers about what went wrong and how it could have been avoided. Whether or not those steps have been taken here remains to be seen.
