Accident Report

Smith County, TX — August 24, 2026, Jorge Garcia-Jimenez was killed in a car accident at about 6:20 a.m. on State Park Highway/F.M. 14 north of Tyler.

Authorities said a pedestrian was walking in the center turn lane when he was hit by a northbound pickup that was trying to pass a vehicle that was turning right onto Donaldson Road/County Road 328.

Pedestrian Jorge Luis Garcia-Jimenez, 42, of Tyler died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.

No other injuries were reported.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Smith County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Why was the pedestrian walking in the road? Did the pickup driver look into the center lane before he moved around another vehicle? Did the pickup have an issue with its throttle or brakes? Asking questions like these should help authorities piece together what happened on F.M. 14.

Investigators will work to reconstruct this crash by poring over vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage, while cell phone footage could help track the pedestrian’s movements, and show what the driver was doing at the time.

If authorities suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash, a qualified expert should examine the pickup before it is repaired or scrapped. Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience, but the pedestrian’s family deserves to know as much as possible about this crash.
