How Did This Accident Occur?
It is unclear how this crash happened at this time. Was the GMC driver fatigued or distracted? Was the area well lit? Did a mechanical issue contribute to the crash? The best way to answer these questions is to wait until the investigation is completed.
Authorities will work to reconstruct the crash by gathering physical evidence, data from the SUV, witness statements and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the GMC driver was doing at the time of the crash. An independent expert may be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical problem played a role in the accident because, in my experience, most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such forensic examinations.
The pedestrian’s family deserves to know as much as possible about this crash.
