Copake, NY — April 16, 2026, John Piwowarski and Janet Piwowarski were killed in a truck accident at about 3:15 p.m. on State Route 23.
Authorities said a 2022 Subaru Outback entered the highway from County Route 7 when it was hit by an eastbound gasoline tanker truck.
Subaru driver John Piwowarski, 78, of Hillsdale was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities, while wife Janet K. Piwowarski, 76, died after being taken to a Hudson hospital.
The truck driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Columbia County crash at this time.
