Hudson, OH — July 23, 2026, John Easley was killed in a truck accident at about 1:15 a.m. on the Outerbelt South Freeway/Interstate 480.
Authorities said a southbound semi-truck lost control east of Stow Road and went down an embankment.
Driver John Easley, 75, of Cleveland Heights was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Summit County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.
How Did This Accident Occur?
In my experience, lost control is not a proper explanation for any vehicle accident. There has to be some clearer reason for a crash like this. Did the driver have a medical emergency? Was he distracted or fatigued? Did the truck swerve to avoid another vehicle? Did it have a problem with its throttle or steering mechanism? I don’t know the answer to these questions, but these are the kind of things that authorities should consider as they investigate this crash.
Investigators likely will work to reconstruct this accident by poring over physical evidence, witness statements, vehicle data and any available video footage, while cell phone records could show if the driver was texting or interacting with an app at the time.
Authorities also should look at the trucking company’s maintenance records to determine if it was overdue for any repairs.
