Washington County, TX — February 16, 2024, John Brunk was injured in a truck accident shortly after 7:45 p.m. along U.S. Highway 290.
According to authorities, an 18-wheeler towing a trailer was traveling southbound on Upshaw Road approaching the U.S. 290 intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that the 18-wheeler attempted a left turn into the eastbound lanes of U.S. 290 at an unsafe time, failing to yield the right of way to highway traffic. This resulted in a collision between the left side of the 18-wheeler’s trailer and the front end of a westbound Mazda occupied by 66-year-old John Brunk. Mazda reportedly travelled underneath the trailer, causing top damage to the Mazda and undercarriage damage to the trailer. It came to rest in the center median on the other side of the 18-wheeler.
Brunk incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the accident. He was transported to a local medical facility by emergency medical services in order to receive immediate treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
