Accident Report
Edinburg, TX — May 13, 2026, Joaquin Baldazo was injured in a car accident at about 4:45 p.m. in the 800 block of East Trenton Road.
A preliminary accident report indicates that an eastbound 2012 Kia Rio was struck by a 2022 Ford F-250 that was exiting a parking lot near South 25th Avenue. The pickup had a partial automation system engaged at the time, the report states.
A passenger in the Kia, 42-year-old Joaquin Baldazo, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report, while the driver was listed as possibly injured.
The Ford driver and three children riding with him were not injured, the report states.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Hidalgo County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
The Ford had a partial automation system, according to the crash report. Authorities should look into the possibility that the pickup’s autonomous driving technology malfuctioned. This is based on software that can override the driver’s input if the truck’s computer detects a problem.
Investigators should pull data from the F-250’s engine control module to see what the autonomous system was doing at the time of this crash. If it intervened when it shouldn’t have, then it would be unfair to blame the driver for this crash. Similarly, if the system did not do something it should have done to prevent this crash, maybe it was the result of a manufacturer defect.
This crash deserves a thorough investigation so the injured passenger his family get a clear picture of what happened on Trenton Road.
