Accident Report
Van Zandt County, TX — April 24, 2026, Jimmy Downs was killed and Debbie Downs was injured in a truck accident at about 11:40 a.m. on Interstate 20.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2024 Hyundai Kona was heading west when it crashed into a 2022 Kenworth semi-truck that was slowing or stopped south of Willis Point. The SUV overturned after the collision.
Hyundai driver Jimmy Don Downs, 72, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the report. His wife, 71-year-old Debra Lynn “Debby” Downs, was seriously injured.
The truck driver was not injured, the report states.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Van Zandt County crash at this time.
