Right now, authorities allege that alcohol was a factor in the accident. If that allegation is true, then it would no doubt call for some serious consequences. What’s important to consider, though, is that may include a local alcohol provider if it comes to light the alleged drunk driver was illegally over-served.

In Texas, alcohol providers can be responsible for contributing to serious accidents if the drunk driver involved was someone they over-served. This can lead to criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and even liability for resulting harm.

Across hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, I’ve seen anywhere from a liquor store to a sports bar to a gas station to a grocery store face consequences for contributing to a serious accident. Too often, though, those establishments escape consequences while others bear all the burden. So while I would need to see more information to know if anything like that would apply here, there are more than enough red flags to know it’s a possible avenue worth closer attention.
