Accident Report

July 11, 2026, Jermaine Glodd II and another person lost their lives due to a car accident just before 9:45 p.m. along Lutcher Drive.

According to authorities, two people—25-year-old Jermain Glodd II and a 27-year-old man—were traveling in a westbound Mercedes-Benz sedan on Lutcher Drive in the vicinity west of the 27th Street intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the vehicle was traveling at unsafe speeds. It subsequently suffered a tire blowout and crashed through a guardrail before overturning into a body of water.

Both Glodd and the man who had been behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Many folks might be tempted to assume it must have been a cut-and-dried case of driver error without giving it much additional thought. While that is a distinct possibility here, I’m not so eager to settle on that conclusion just yet. Why? Because over the last three decades in which I have had this career, I have seen plenty of similar cases in which thorough investigation managed to uncover evidence of less likely causes.

That’s not to imply that I know more details about this specific accident than are already available to the public, by the way. As far as I am aware, driver error remains on the table as a possible cause. However, I would like to suggest a hypothetical. What if, rather than driver error, the Mercedes-Benz’s excessive speed was a result of something gone wrong with the vehicle itself? For example, is it not possible that it was dealing with brake failure? Or maybe its throttle somehow got stuck in the open position? Reports have already noted a tire blowout. Could that have been due to a manufacturer defect? I do understand that these things are less than likely, but that does not mean that they do not merit any consideration whatsoever.

An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to shed light on any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck which might otherwise have flown unnoticed under the radar. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get on done. That way nothing important will inadvertently be allowed to slip through the cracks. After all, when everything is said and done, the people who were affected by this accident—the loved ones left behind by the victims—deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of how it happened, as well as why. Surface-level investigation just won’t cut it.
