Accident Report

Rains County, TX — February 24, 2026, Jennifer Padilla was killed in a truck accident at about 6:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 69 near Point.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2024 GMC Sierra C3500 with a trailer was driving on the wrong side of the road when it collided with a 2021 Jeep Gladiator and a 2025 Kia Telluride.

Kia driver Jennifer Padilla, 35, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the report.

The two people in the Jeep were not injured, the report states.

The truck driver, a 72-year-old man who was not injured, was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road and having an improper license for the vehicle he was driving, according to the report.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Rains County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Police seem to think they have figured out how this crash unfolded, but investigators should still scrutinize evidence from the scene and data from the vehicles to confirm what happened. Maybe one of the vehicles had a dashcam that has footage of the crash.

But why was the GMC out of its lane? Was the driver distracted? Or did the truck have a problem with its steering mechanism?
