Will County, IL — July 5, 2024, Jeanna St. Peter was killed as the result of a semi-truck accident at around 7:00 a.m. along Interstate 80.
According to officials, the incident took place at the I-80 and I-55 interchange outside of Joliet.

It appears that 44-year-old Jeanna St. Peter was outside of a truck with a boat trailer which had stopped along the right side of the interstate following a previous accident. While there, an approaching semi-truck reportedly did not avoid the scene in time, hitting the stationary vehicle. This led to Peter being hit, resulting in fatal injuries. There were no other reported injuries.

Right now, factors surrounding the accident are under investigation. Key among the details still to learn is how visible and avoidable the stationary vehicles were. There is ample daylight by 7:00 a.m., so one has to wonder if there were other motorists passing the scene who had no problems slowing down and going around the stationary vehicles. Was there something this truck driver had no control over which led to the crash? Were they speeding or looking at their phone? Could it be they were working long hours due to an employer setting unreasonable deadlines? Is the driver unqualified, or do they have a history of getting into accidents?
Likely or not, there could be many factors involved here that need to be addressed. It remains to be seen if authorities are being thorough enough to address details that lie beyond the confines of the crash scene itself. If not, they could be overlooking something important the victim’s loved ones need to hear.
