How Did This Accident Occur?

There certainly isn’t enough information available right now to make any concrete conclusions. However, people often see pedestrians hit on a dark country road and just assume they were walking where they shouldn’t have been. That’s simply an unfair bias. I’ve seen plenty of situations where pedestrians are on the correct side of the road walking as far to the side as possible, and drivers who are driving too fast for their headlights fail to avoid them. Maybe that happened here, or maybe not. The point is that it’s up to the evidence to say what happened, and that sometimes means bringing in independent investigators who will be more fair and more thorough than a typical police investigation.
