Matagorda County, TX — November 26, 2023, Jasian Matthew Barefield was killed as the result of a motorcycle accident at around 6:11 p.m. on Henderson Avenue.
According to initial details from authorities, the crash happened off the corner of Henderson Avenue (Highway 35) and 2nd Street.
Officials said that 35-year-old Jasian Barefield was on a Honda motorcycle going eastbound along Henderson. At a private drive just off 2nd Street, it appears a northbound Chevy Cavalier pulled out into the path of Barefield’s motorcycle, resulting in a collision. Barefield was thrown from the bike, resulting in fatal injuries.

The preliminary reports on the accident did not say if authorities planned to file charges or citations. I can only hope that’s because they wanted to determine why the driver failed to yield. There are certainly drivers out there who just aren’t paying much attention for motorcycles, which is why crashes like this are all too common. But further digging could reveal factors such as cell phone usage, intoxicated driving, visibility obstructions, or other extenuating circumstances which call for more in-depth attention. Did authorities look into those kinds of possible factors, or did something important slip through the cracks?
