Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With any work accident, an OSHA summary saying “closed” might not actually mean everything is open-and-shut. I’ve been handling work fatalities for 30 years now, and the OSHA reports often just scratch the surface.

Texas has the most complex work fatality laws of any other state in the country. Despite what many believe, there isn’t always a guaranteed path for getting a worker’s family the help they need after an accident. That takes a lot more legal maneuvering, and an OSHA report is usually just one piece of that puzzle.

Hopefully steps were taken here to anticipate those challenges so the family could put all the pieces together and get a just resolution.
