Authorities said a van collided with a semi-truck while attempting a left turn at the intersection.
Van driver Jared Paul Tobler, 48, died after being taken to a nearby hospital, according to authorities.
The truck driver was hospitalized as a precaution, authorities said.

How Did This Accident Occur?
Police have said this crash happened as the van was turning left, but it is not clear which vehicle had the right of way. Did the van or the semi-truck disregard a traffic signal? Was one of them speeding? Was one driver distracted or fatigued? Did one vehicle have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? These are questions that authorities should endeavor to answer as they investigate this crash.
Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage should help piece together what happened, while cell phone records could show what the drivers were doing at the time.
If investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash, an outside expert likely will be needed to examine the vehicles because most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience.
A thorough investigation should address any lingering questions the van driver’s family has about this crash.
