How Did This Accident Occur?

In my experience, it will be difficult for authorities to sort out what caused this accident until they locate the suspect vehicle and its driver.

The vehicle’s engine control module contains data about speed, braking and steering inputs at the time that could be key to this investigation, but only if authorities can find it.

Fortunately, other tools investigators use to reconstruct traffic accidents — physical evidence, witness statements and available video footage — can help them identify the vehicle, and provide much-needed answers for the pedestrian’s family.
