Generally speaking, sudden accidents like this are a lot more common late at night or early in the morning when things like fatigue, for example, lead to a crash. A crash like this in the middle of the afternoon isn’t unheard of, certainly, but it can raise the possibility the crash involved less common factors. Have authorities checked things like tire failure? Medical conditions? Road hazards? Vehicle defects? Issues with signage or road design? Common or not, the victim’s loved ones should at least feel satisfied they’re getting all the facts. It remains to be seen if authorities are working to that end.
