Madison, NE — May 14, 2025, James Hitz was injured as the result of a semi-truck accident at around 4:00 p.m. along Highway 81.

To this day, I still have people come to me with the assumption that someone who rear-ends another vehicle is automatically at fault. That’s just not how the law works. The law is nuanced enough to ask why the rear-end collision happened. Could it be something common, like speeding or distracted driving? Of course. Could it also be something like brake failure, a vehicle with non-functional brake lights, someone being cut off, or some sort of vehicle defect? Absolutely. Likely or not, it’s important to consider these possibilities and let the evidence speak for itself. At the end of the day, it doesn’t do anyone any good to jump to conclusions.
