To be clear up front, I don’t know anything more about this crash beyond what’s reported publicly. My concern is simply that motorcycle wrecks are not always investigated properly. A lot of people are biased against motorcyclists, and it can lead to hasty investigations or rushed conclusions that result in inaccurate reporting.
For example, I had a case not long ago involving a motorcyclist blamed for speeding and weaving through traffic. The family thought that sounded unlike the victim, so we started digging into things. It turned out authorities based their reports on a witness’s statements, but those statements were completely misinterpreted. The witness clarified that all they told the officer was that the victim passed them on the left, then changed lanes back to the right. Had there not been more thorough investigations, who knows if the truth ever would have come to light.
That’s why thorough investigations are so important in these situations. Maybe nothing unusual happened here, and maybe authorities were careful not to let any kind of bias color their investigations. At the end of the day, it’s important the victim’s loved ones at least feel satisfied they’re getting the whole story.
