How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear at this point what happened on Old Lorena Road. Was the bicyclist in the road? Did it have lights? Was the Subaru driver distracted or fatigued? Did the car have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? Investigators should be able to answer all of these questions when they are done with their probe into this crash.

Answers will come as authorities pore over vehicle data, physical evidence, witness statements and any available video footage. Cell phone records could help trace the bicyclist’s path, and show what the Subaru was driver was doing at the time.

If investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash, there needs to be an in-depth inspection of the Subaru by a qualified professional. Most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such exams, in my experience, but the bicyclist’s family deserves to know as much as possible about this crash.
