Callahan County, TX — May 31, 2024, one person was killed and James Apple was injured in a car accident just after 3:30 p.m. along State Highway 36.
According to authorities, 82-year-old James Apple was traveling in an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck on S.H. 36 at the U.S. 283 intersection when the accident took place.

The pickup truck had a green light as it entered the intersection, according to reports. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Kia Sorento occupied by a 21-year-old man on U.S. 283 failed to stop for the red light indicated by the traffic signal. This resulted in a T-bone collision between the left side of the Sorento and the front-end of the Ford.
The man from the Sorento suffered reportedly fatal injuries due to the wreck. Apple sustained severe injuries, as well, and was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
